USA Lacrosse Junior Officials Training (Certification and Re-Certification)
CENTRAL WEST, SOUTH AND TRI-COUNTY REGIONS
Junior Official Certification is for anyone between the ages of 14 and 18 who wishes to officiate lacrosse
games. It is recommended that junior officials only officiate youth games for players that are at
least two age levels below their age.
Requirements
- Attend a Training Clinic (Classroom and on field instruction)
- Take and pass the Annual Online Rules Exam (85% or higher)
- Demonstrate required officiating skills during an On-Field Evaluation.
- Must be a Current Member of USA Lacrosse with Official participation (If you are a member as a Player, you must contact Member Services and have Official added to your classification.
- Complete the Rules On-Line Course (this is in addition to the Training Clinic in Item 1 above and takes approximately 2 hours to watch) (You only have to watch this once in your career)
- Watch the Annual Professional Development Course – this may occur during your classroom OR you will do this at home. It depends on when your classroom session takes place.
A USA Lacrosse Junior Official Certification is good for one year. Upon completion of the requirements, you will receive notification from your trainer with the expiration date of your certification. Junior Official Classroom Instruction
Location 1: West Chester East HS, Tuesday and Thursday, 12/13/22 AND 12/15/22, 6:30PM – 9:00PM
Location 2: Methacton HS, Saturday, 1/28/23, 9:00AM – 2:00PM
Location 3: West Chester East HS, MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY, 1/23/23 AND 1/25/23, 6:30PM – 9:00PM
Field Work at YSC (in King of Prussia) during Winter League (beginning 12/5) and at playdays (which are TBA)

EAST REGION
US Lacrosse Junior Officials Training (New Officials & Re-Certification)
For PAGLA East 2022-23 A US Lacrosse Junior rating (Under 18 years old, high school student) is good for one year. Upon completion of the requirements, you will receive notification from your trainer with the expiration date of your rating. If you do not receive this notification, you have not completed the requirements and are not a USL rated official. Yes, you must complete all requirements every year even if you are re-certifying. Requirements:
1. Pre-registration with Melissa is required via email. There are limited amount of spots in the class.
2. Attend the PAGLA East Training Clinic; this includes 8 hours of classroom training sessions, one classroom session for the rule’s interpretation meeting/test review, several on-field classroom sessions, as well as several on-field training while officiating.
3. You must be a current member of US Lacrosse (registration of 12/31/2023 is current for the Spring season) and add youth official to your profile, if you are a member of USA Lacrosse it is just an upgrade, but you need to call Member services to have it added.
4. Take the Girls’ Lacrosse Rules Online Course this is mandatory and in addition to the classroom training and is on the USA Lacrosse website. It is about 2 hours in length if you have never taken it and is free. Certificate is due to Melissa later during the class.
5. Take the Women’s Game Officials Annual Professional Development Course, this is mandatory in addition to the classroom training and is on the USA Lacrosse website. This is about 20 minutes in length and it is free. Certificate is due later during the class.
6. Take the online USL Youth Rules Test and score an 85 or higher, we will be reviewing the test in class and then you will be required to enter your answers into the USA Lacrosse website and forwarding the email that USAL sends to you to Melissa.
7. Watch the USL Rules Interpretation Video, this will happen during a classroom session in February, but you can watch it again at home.
8. Demonstrate required officiating skills during the on-field training sessions and evaluation on 3/18/23 at Upper Dublin HS Youth Playday for new officials or 3/19/23 at Upper Dublin 1st day of PAGLA games for renewing officials.
9. Officiate with a black Fox 40 whistle. I will place an order for the class prior to the first date. The cost is around $6. You can pay for the whistle after I place the order.
